September 8, 2026: Indonesia fire situation

Indonesian fires intensify during El Niño events because prolonged drought in combination with drainage of peatlands and land use change makes the landscape highly flammable. The graph below is updated daily and helps putting the emissions of this year's El Niño in context of previous years.
